Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique hailed his side’s commanding 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Club World Cup semi-final on Wednesday, as the French giants moved one step closer to an unprecedented clean sweep of trophies this season.
At MetLife Stadium, goals from Fabian Ruiz (brace), Ousmane Dembélé, and substitute Gonçalo Ramos dismantled a Madrid side still settling under new coach Xabi Alonso. PSG will now face Chelsea in Sunday’s final, also in New Jersey.
“It is a beautiful victory and we are happy to be in the final,” Enrique said post-match. “We are one game away from making history for Paris and for a French club by winning every competition we have taken part in. That means a lot for us and for our fans.”
PSG entered the Club World Cup as Ligue 1 and French Cup champions, and after thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League final, they are seeking to cap a flawless campaign with global silverware.
A dominant force throughout 2025, PSG have flourished under Enrique since his appointment in July 2023. In contrast, Real Madrid, under new management following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure, struggled to contain their opponents.
“It’s a new set-up for them,” Enrique said of Alonso’s side. “He has just come in, while we’ve been working together for two years. He needs time; the situations can’t be compared.”
Ousmane Dembélé, returning from injury, was instrumental in the win and scored his 35th goal in 52 appearances for the club. Enrique suggested the French forward deserves serious Ballon d’Or consideration.
“For me, the players who can win the Ballon d’Or must not just score and assist but help their team win trophies,” he said. “Ousmane does that more than any other player.”
A win over Chelsea would seal a perfect season for PSG and mark an historic moment for French football.
