M-Pesa Foundation Unveils Ksh 35 Million Modern Learning Complex at Omolo Agar School, Homa Bay

In a major boost to education infrastructure in Homa Bay County, the M-Pesa Foundation has officially completed the construction of modern learning facilities worth Ksh 35 million at The Omolo Agar School, transforming the school into a model institution for rural education.

This initiative falls under the Foundation’s Citizens of the Future Programme, a national campaign aimed at enhancing education outcomes across all of Kenya’s 47 counties.

At Omolo Agar, the project delivered 15 fully furnished classrooms serving Grades 1 to 9 and ECDE learners, a 30-seater ICT hub, an administration block, a fully equipped kitchen, secureperimeter walls and gate, and six-door ablution blocks catering to boys, girls, and staff.

“We are pleased with the successful completion of this project, which will benefit about 250 learners,” said Patricia Ithau, Trustee of M-Pesa Foundation. “We don’t just build schools we invest in breaking the barriers to quality education through meaningful partnerships with communities, and national and county governments. So far, we’ve positively impacted over 3 million learners nationwide.”

The impact of this investment was deeply felt by the school community. Caroline Odongo, Headteacher at Omolo Agar School, described the development as transformative.

“We have long struggled with crumbling classrooms and inadequate facilities, which demotivated both learners and teachers. Today, we are seeing hope return. These new buildings will boost performance and school pride,” she said.

Beyond Omolo Agar, M-Pesa Foundation is also funding projects at Ligongo Primary School (Ksh57 million) and Ober Primary School (KES 42 million) in the same county, reinforcing its long-term vision of inclusive and equitable education for all.

To date, Safaricom, through its philanthropic arms, has invested over Ksh 216 million in education projects in Homa Bay alone and remains committed to scaling up similar initiatives countrywide.
