Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has taken a swipe at President William Ruto over remarks he made in Makueni County, accusing him of using rhetoric that stirs fear and division among the Kamba community.
Speaking after the President’s visit, Mwangangi said Ruto’s declaration that he would ensure the Kamba community “joins his side by all means” ahead of the 2027 elections was uncalled for and disrespectful.
“As much as the President has every right to tour any part of this country, he should not make statements that sound coercive or create fear among communities,” Mwangangi said. “If he truly wants to win the hearts of the Kamba people, let him do so through development and respect, not intimidation.”
The Deputy Governor insisted that the Kamba community remains firmly behind Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, describing Ruto’s political vow as an exercise in futility.
He went on to fault the President for dismissing the opposition as “people without an agenda,” terming it an act of arrogance and chest-thumping unbecoming of a national leader.
“The Kenya Kwanza administration must rise above divisive politics and focus on uniting Kenyans,” Mwangangi added. “The next election will not be about parties—it will be between Kenyans and one man, William Ruto.”
He further urged the government to prioritise completing stalled development projects before launching new ones, warning that the habit of abandoning initiatives midstream only deepens public mistrust.
“Let the government prove its commitment by finishing what it started. Empty promises won’t fix the economy or restore public faith,” he said, calling on citizens to “prepare to clean up the State House” and demand leadership that works for the people, not against them.
