Machakos ICU Beds Full — Governor Mutua Cautions Residents

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has lamented the lack of ICU beds in his county, amid a surging third wave of COVID-19. – By Gerald Gekara.

“DANGER – NOTICE: The ICU’s in Machakos county are FULL with both Machakos & other county Covid-19 patients.” Dr. Mutua tweeted.

He urged locals to maintain COVID-19 prevention measures as there is limited space for serious cases.

“The ICU’s in Machakos County are full with both Machakos and other county Covid-19 patients. Currently there are NO ICU beds available in Kenya. If you see someone not wearing a mask, question their intention. Your life is yours, not corporate,” he warned.

Kenya is currently in its third wave of COVID-19 infections.

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced that 1,279 people tested positive for COVID-19 from 7,450 samples, taking the total caseload to 116,310.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, said the country is facing a more aggressive, non-discriminatory strain attacking everyone.

“Over the last few days, we have seen our positivity rate rise with a vengeance that we have not witnessed before and as we speak, we are now confirming over 17% yesterday of those tested as positive,” he said.

“Unlike before where virtually all our infections were asymptomatic, we have ICU cases climbing to over 100 over the last one week from a low of 30 just two months ago.”
