Machakos, Kitui To Unveil Environment Committee

Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and his Machakos counterpart Wavinya Ndeti will gazette County Environment Committee in the next 14 days.

This follows an appeal by NEMA to the two devolved units to mitigate environmental challenges facing the devolved units.

The County Environment Committees(CEC’s) are statutory bodies that deal with environmental matters in all the 47 Counties.

The Governors are the appointing authority in line with the 2010 Constitution and the County Government Act.

All the 47 counties are enduring challenges of solid waste management, Sound Pollution and Ecosystem Management.

Climate change mitigation campaigns are also a key area of concern as the biting drought continues to ravage.

Mr. Charles Mulila, Chairman of the Board’s Environment Management Technical Committee, stated that the authority will deploy teams to all counties.

The teams will conduct education campaigns on noise pollution within rural neighbourhoods.

Mulila stated that NEMA has collaborated with national government administrators in each of the 47 counties as part of the one-government approach to service delivery.
