Machakos Liquor Dealers In Court As KRA Haunts Tax Cheats

Today investigation officers from the Revenue entity arraigned two business people in court and charged them with possessing excisable beer affixed with Counterfeit excise stamps.

Eunice Marango Wanjiku and Stephen Thuku Kairu were arrested on May 4, 2022 at Maruti in Machakos with 3,313 cartons of vodka affixed with Counterfeit excise stamps. 

According to the officers, the accused caused the commissioner of domestic taxes to lose Ksh 3 million in excise duty as a result of the viruses used in their crime. 

The two were also charged with possessing unaccustomed chemicals contrary to the Law. The prosecution submitted that 37 drums of ethanol valued at Ksh 3.4m were also recovered at the time of the arrest. 

Further, according to the charge sheet, the accused persons were unlawfully found in possession of 50,000 stamps worthy of Ksh 3.3m.

Appearing before Magistrate Micheni Wendy of Milimani Law courts, the accused persons denied particulars of the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh 200,000 with alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.
