Machakos MCAs Clash Over Alleged Irregular Hiring in County Government

Tensions flared at the Machakos County Assembly on Monday evening as lawmakers debated alleged irregularities in the county government’s recruitment processes.

The conflict arose after several county chief officers failed to appear before the House to respond to questions regarding the methods used to hire staff. Minority representatives, led by Kinanie/Mathatani Ward MCA Francis Kavyu, criticized the Majority side for what they described as a lack of transparency in the county’s recruitment practices.

Speaker of the Assembly, Ann Kiusya, has now tasked the Public Service Committee with investigating the allegations. The committee is expected to prepare a report within 21 days. “The statement sought by Hon. Ngunga is hereby referred to the Labour and ICT Committee, to report back within 21 days,” Kiusya said.

The development underscores growing concerns over accountability and transparency in county government operations, with legislators calling for clear guidelines in recruitment to ensure fairness and meritocracy.
