Everything is in ready for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, which will take place on Wednesday at the newly built and renovated Uhuru Gardens, Memorial Park.
The park has a capacity of around 30,000 people, according to Nairobi Regional Commissioner William Kang’ethe Thuku, who invited locals to join the President and other officials in commemorating the historic day.
Thuku described the event, which was themed ‘pamoja tusonge mbele,’ as the first Madaraka day to be observed statewide since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic that has plagued Kenyans.
He said the event is significant because Kenyans are approaching the 59th anniversary of their independence from colonialism, as well as the third general election since the 2010 Constitution was promulgated.
Thuku warned Kenyans attending the celebrations to exercise cautious because the epidemic is still present, adding that no roads will be closed tomorrow as Kenyans remember the achievement of internal self-rule and the need to zealously protect Madaraka day in everyday transactions.
