Police have arrested the main suspect in the January robbery of Ksh.2.3 million shillings from Prime Bank at the Westside Mall in Nakuru.
Tobias Juma Mukhuyu was apprehended on Saturday at Nashianda trading centre in Bungoma County.
According to a police report, Juma, who was working as a KK Security guard at the time of the incident, fled his home and has been hiding since.
Following a review of CCTV footage, Nakuru Town East Criminal Investigative Officer in Charge George Momanyi stated that Juma is suspected to be the mastermind of the robbery.
On January 26, 2022, five gangsters stormed into the banking hall, armed with a homemade gun, hammer, knives, and a panga, and kidnapped the nine staff members on duty.
He is currently being held at Nakuru Central Police Station.
The thugs allegedly led them into the washrooms and locked them inside before raiding the cash drawers.
A bank teller sustained injuries after being hit with a hammer by one of the suspects. The staffer was rushed to hospital, treated and discharged.
Police who responded to the scene managed to recover a homemade gun, hammer, mobile phone and a Sh1,000 note from the scene.
