Main Suspect in Brutal Murder of Mother, Daughter, and Niece Arrested in Eastleigh

A man suspected of orchestrating the tragic murder of a mother, her daughter, and her 12-year-old niece was apprehended in Eastleigh, Nairobi, on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

The suspect had been eluding authorities for weeks as detectives expanded their search operations into neighboring Somalia and Ethiopia.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly held a fraudulent Kenyan identification card and had a tumultuous history with law enforcement, having previously served as a regional police officer in Ethiopia.

His record includes a prior arrest related to the murder of his wife, leading to his flight to Kenya, where he started a taxi business in Eastleigh and Parklands.

The victims—Amina Abdirashid, her aunt Waris Dahabo Daud, and her niece Nusayba Abdi Mohammed—were brutally murdered shortly after being picked up by the suspect’s vehicle, a Nissan Note, on October 21, 2024.

Their bodies were discovered scattered across different locations, prompting a manhunt for the suspect.

Police have confirmed that the suspect is connected to a history of extortion within the city, raising concerns about the potential motives behind the horrific crime.

Eyewitnesses and informants played a crucial role in locating him in Eastleigh, where he was reportedly hiding until his capture.

“He is now in custody and will be interrogated regarding the murders, as well as additional charges including rape, robbery with violence, and extortion,” stated an officer close to the investigation.

The investigation gained speed after CCTV footage showed the suspect’s vehicle picking up the victims from their home just hours before they were found deceased.

The abandoned Nissan Note was discovered at Wakulima Market and has been taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for forensic examination, which is expected to further tie the suspect to the crime.

Authorities had recently appealed to the public for assistance in tracking the suspect, demonstrating the community’s role in facilitating justice in this chilling case.
