Zachariah Obadiah Nyaora, the primary suspect in a sexual assault at Barabara tano along Professor Wangari Mathai Road was today arraigned in a Nairobi Court.
He is accused of a crime where a diplomat lady working with World Food Organization in Kenya was sexually assaulted and her phone valued Ksh. 130,000 stolen.
Inspector Lyvonne Mwanzia, the investigation officer approached Court with a miscellaneous application seeking to detain the respondent for 10 days pending charging.
Armed with legal authority, the officer demonstrated to the court that Zacharia Nyaora is a fright risk.
“Your honor the suspect was arrested yesterday along Esebania border fleeing Kenya to the neighboring Tanzania.” Said the investigating officer.
According to the investigation officer, Zacharia Nyaora was captured in a footage shared on social media assaulting the lady sexually.
He will be detained at Gigiri police station for 10 days.
Inspector Lyvonne Mwanzia told the court that within the 10 days she intends to; collect witness statements, interrogate the respondent, subject the respondent’s phone to forensic analysis, retrieve CCTV footage covering the scene among other investigations.
He will be charged alongside 16 co-suspects on 24th march 2022.
The prosecution intends to charge him with robbery with violence as well as sexual assault both of which are capital offences punishable by life imprisonment.
Tafadzwa Esnath Chiposi the victim in the assault reported the matter on 4th march 2022.
According to the report, on 4th march 2022 around 1730 hours, Tafadzwa Chiposi a diplomat working with world food organization was involved in a traffic road accident with a bodaboda rider.
It was this accident that prompted the other bodaboda riders to accuse her of hitting one of their own.
The said bodaboda operators moved close to her car and started assaulting her sexually.
