A recent Infotrak survey reveals that 60% of Kenyans remain uncertain about who they would prefer to succeed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua if he is impeached.
With the Senate set to address the impeachment motion on October 17, public sentiment appears divided.
Among those polled, 20% indicated a preference for Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki to take over the deputy presidency, citing his expertise and experience as key factors in their choice.
Support for other candidates remains low, with 5% backing Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Both Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro garnered 4% support, while former Prime Minister Raila Odinga attracted just 2%.
The study also highlights broader concerns, with 73% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction with the direction of the country under President William Ruto’s administration.
Johvine Wanyingo, Infotrak’s Research Manager, noted that expertise and experience were primary reasons for preferring particular candidates, with Kindiki leading in these attributes.
