Simon Mathara Mbuthia, a resident of Makongeni in Thika, was on July 24, 2025, arraigned before the Senior Resident Magistrate at Thika Law Courts on charges of possessing narcotic drugs.
According to the charge sheet, Mathara was arrested on the night of July 23, 2025, at around 10:00 PM in Makongeni Phase Four, Thika West Sub-County. He was allegedly found in possession of 20 sachets (20 grams) of heroin, with an estimated street value of Ksh 4,000.
In a separate count, he was also found with 17 rolls (17 grams) of cannabis sativa (bhang) valued at Ksh1,700, not in medicinal preparation form.
He now faces two counts of being in possession of narcotic drugs contrary to Section 3(1) as read with Section 3(2)(a) and 3(2)(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) (Amendment) Act No. 4 of 2022.
Mathara, who was held in custody following his arrest, was granted a cash bail of Ksh 30,000 by the Senior Resident Magistrate.
The case is scheduled for mention on August 8, 2025, with the hearing set for September 8, 2025.
