Makueni County has taken a bold step toward a sustainable future by validating its draft energy policy, aiming to transform the region’s energy landscape.
On Wednesday, the County Energy Directorate, in collaboration with Strathmore University and the World Resources Institute, hosted a high-level validation meeting for the draft Makueni Energy Policy. The session brought together key stakeholders, including members of the County Executive Committee, to review and enhance the policy’s framework.
Rooted in the Energy Act 2019 and the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the policy is poised to serve as a strategic guide for planning, regulating, and implementing energy initiatives across the county. It emphasizes access to modern energy solutions that are sustainable, affordable, reliable, and secure for all residents.
Present at the meeting were several senior county officials, including CECM for Transport and Energy Eng. Peter Mumo, Lands CECM Japheth Mang’oka, Water CECM Eng. John Kieti, Trade CECM Dr. Sonia Nzilani, County Attorney Stanley Nthiwa, and Chief Officer for Energy Eng. Naomi Nthambi.
The policy, once adopted, is expected to promote investments in clean energy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and support climate-resilient development in Makueni County.
