Malava MP Moses Malulu Injendi Passes Away After Long Illness

Malava Member of Parliament Moses Malulu Injendi has died while undergoing treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

The veteran lawmaker passed away on Monday evening, leaving his constituency and the nation in shock.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula confirmed Injendi’s death, describing him as a dedicated and passionate representative who served his constituents with unwavering commitment and integrity.” Wetangula added that Injendi’s efforts, particularly in the education sector and sugar industry, would be deeply missed.

Injendi was serving his third term as MP and was the vice chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Education and Research. A loyal member of Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC), he had represented Malava since 2013, demonstrating the electorate’s continued faith in his leadership.

The MP’s death follows weeks of speculation about his health. In January, rumours of his passing circulated widely, prompting Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa to clarify that Injendi was alive but receiving medical treatment. At the time, Governor Barasa refrained from disclosing details about the MP’s illness.

Injendi was known for his boldness and outspokenness. He made headlines as recently as November 2024 when he criticised the Nairobi Archdiocese’s decision to reject cash donations from President William Ruto. In a controversial move, Injendi publicly apologised to the President on behalf of the Church, describing the rejection as “shameful.”

His untimely death marks the end of a remarkable political career defined by courage and commitment to his people. As the nation mourns, tributes continue to pour in, with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi leading the condolences.

Moses Malulu Injendi leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to his constituents.
