Malindi Residents Protest ‘Corrupt’ CDF Bursary Allocations

A section of residents in Malindi town Ward held peaceful demonstrations protesting the alleged skewed allocation of bursaries by the area MCA Rashid Odhiambo.

The MCA dismissed the allegations as baseless and the residents threatened to collect signatures to recall their MCA.

Documents of bursary documents revealed that most learners from private secondary schools received between Sh. 10,000 and Sh. 15,000 compared to Sh. 5,000 issued to learners in public secondary schools.

The residents now want the Ward Scholarship Fund board to be disbanded and a new one formed before the second phase of bursaries are issued.

Mama Maria a resident of Malindi town Ward said they would mobilize signatures to recall the MCAs if he won’t fulfil his promises.

Stephen Opiyo alleged that a non-existence school also benefited from the bursaries with each student receiving Sh. 10,000.

Governor Gideon Mung’aro is advising Governor Gideon Mung’aro to intervene in the case of a school where each student has been awarded Sh. 10, 000 yet a school like Barani has had its student get only Sh. 5, 000.

The MCA in response to the issues raised is false and termed them as political strategies used by rival politicians to ensure he does not deliver his mandate.

Thomas Mitsanze, Chairman of the Scholarship committee, said they have all records which show the bursaries were allocated equally.

Mary Karisa committee member of the ward scholarship in Malindi town ward representing the people living with disabilities dismissed claims that there was no representation of people living with disability.
