It will be a battle of minds, hard work and tough persuasion to win the Malindi MP seat in August.
Currently the seat has continued to attract more aspirants who are set to battle in the coming General elections in August.
With the incumbent, Aisha Jumwa going for the gubernatorial position, the net will cast wide open for the who is who to battle for the seat which among its areas is the Malindi resort town.
Eight aspirants have shown interest including four who are in the orange democratic party (ODM) and who will be subject to nominations.
The latest entrant in the race is Kenneth Karisa, who hails from Amwamkare clan one of the larger clans within the Giriama sub-tribe of the Mijikenda.
He called on all the clansmen to bless his bid, before he embarks on the campaigns at his rural home in Jilore in Malindi constituency.
Among those who attended the traditional ceremony included Former Kenye Defense Forces Chief of general Staff General Samson Mwathethe, Kilifi County Secretary Arnold Mkare among many other top officials all who are from the Amwamkare clan.
Mr Karisa has been running a foundation to support in diverse projects including health, education, sports, among others.
He is banking on the population of his clan in addition to his support he has through his foundation to win the seat come August 2022.
In his speech after he was blessed by two elders from his clan while wearing full traditional regalia Karisa said his mission is to use his network and authority to establish industries in the constituency so as to create job opportunities and uplift the economy.
He said Malindi is facing many challenges because of over reliance on the tourism sector and lacks industries such as that of cashewnuts which could create employment opportunities and raise the 9ncome of local farmers.
He told Malindi residents to desist from electing leaders based on political parties’ grounds saying they could end up choosing the wrong leader.
“I decided to join politics because of the things I saw while running Karisa foundation, there are so many problems here in Jilore and Malindi constituency at large but if we join hands, they are issues we can address,” he said.
He called on the residents to support him and ensure he is elected as MP so as to continue the work he has doing with his foundation.
The Malindi parliamentary hopeful said they need to elect leaders of kind heart who understand the problems of people so as to get solutions to their challenges.
“There were times when tourism was thriving here in Malindi but now the situation is bad only buildings are left and there is need to revive the economy of the constituency,” he said.
Karisa will be battling for the seat with other seven aspirants including Phillip Charo, Amina Mnyazi, Jamaal Gadaffi, Lennox Pande all of ODM, together with Peter Ponda of UDA, Willy Mtengo of PAA and Nixon Nyule.
