David Muinde a key prosecution witness appeared before Magistrate Esther Kimilu of Milimani Law courts for cross-examination in a case where two Staff officers from Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital are charged with Child Trafficking.

Mr.Muinde, a forensic documents examiner and a senior superintendent of police, told the court that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations tasked him to examine release orders of abandoned babies addressed to Embakasi Children’s office dated December 21,2020.

According to the witness, the release order originated from the said Hospital and was written and signed by Makallah Fred Leparan, one of the accused persons.

The said release order is believed to pave way for the accused person to traffic five infants aged two months each and two other infants aged eight days each between March 1, 2020 and November 16, 2020.

The witness told the court that upon comparing the handwriting and signature appearing on the release order to the known signature and handwriting of the accused person, he concluded that he had no reason to doubt that the signature was by the accused person.

Asked for his conclusion he said that he was guided by the investigation of three signature specimens from the accused person and that all leads led to a positive conclusion.

This positive consistency of the said witness is most likely to pin the accused person to the crime scene.

In the case, Leparan is jointly charged alongside Selina Awuor Adundo, who is also a social worker at the same hospital. They have denied five counts of child theft and a child trafficking syndicate.
