A 32-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Migori County while transporting a large consignment of bhang valued at approximately Ksh.13.7 million, police have confirmed.

The suspect, identified as Edwin Okondo Nyagaga, was intercepted by officers from Oruba Police Station along the Giribe-Masara Road while driving a black Toyota Kluger, registration number KBS 517N.

According to police, a tip-off led to the interception of the vehicle, which was found to be loaded with eight sacks of bhang weighing a total of 457.6 kilograms. The illicit cargo was concealed in the vehicle, which is believed to have been used in a broader drug trafficking operation.

In addition to the drugs, officers recovered four different number plates—KBP 716H, KBT 673F, KBW 341T, and KBX 142P—raising suspicions that the plates were being used to disguise the vehicle’s identity during illegal operations.

Okondo, the seized narcotics, and the vehicle were taken to Oruba Police Station for further processing. Authorities said he is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

The arrest marks one of the largest drug seizures in Migori in recent months and underscores heightened efforts by law enforcement to disrupt narcotics trafficking in the region.
