A man has been charged at the Wang’uru Law Courts in Kirinyaga County over allegations that he drugged the Kirinyaga County Assembly Majority Leader and stole cash and personal belongings in an incident reported in Ngurubani Township.
The accused, Alex Mwaura Muchiri, appeared before Principal Magistrate Martha Opanga, where he faced multiple charges including conspiracy to commit a felony and stupefying, contrary to Section 393 of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences were committed on diverse dates between December 13 and December 14, 2025, in Ngurubani Township, Mwea East Sub-county.
In the first count, Muchiri is accused of conspiring with others not before the court to steal an iPhone 16 Pro Max, a power bank, a wristwatch, a pair of open shoes and cash, all valued at Ksh 692,420.
The items allegedly belong to Benson Waweru Ngahu, the Gathigiriri Ward MCA and Majority Leader of the Kirinyaga County Assembly.
The second count alleges that the accused, together with his accomplices, administered a substance to Ngahu with the intent of impairing his senses, an act prosecutors say facilitated the theft.
In the third count, Muchiri is charged with stealing Ksh 206,300 in cash, also alleged to be the property of the Majority Leader.
Muchiri denied all the charges when they were read to him.
The court released him on a Ksh 300,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail, pending further proceedings.
