A young man was today arraigned in a Nairobi Court facing charges of stealing from a company and distributing the money electronically to over 147 Safaricom subscribers.
John Gichuki Nduati is accused that on July 19, 2024, stole Ksh 1,795,735 the property of web tribe limited.
The Court heard that shortly after Nduati stole the money, he distributed it to a total of 147 Safaricom subscribers who later withdrew the money completely weakening any possibility of ever retrieving the money.
The prosecution had earlier on opposed release of the accused person on bond saying he would interfere with witnesses.
However, the court declined the prosecution’s request saying that the accused went to the police station honoring summons hence there was no sufficient grounds to deny him bond.
“The fact that the investigating officer arraigned him in court for plea taking instead of seeking a search warrant is a clear indication that investigations are complete, the accused person is hereby released on Ksh 2m bond and ordered to deposit passport in Court.” ruled Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.
The case will be mentioned on September 2.
