A Nairobi court has charged a man with multiple counts of forgery and related offences after he was accused of creating and circulating a falsified government letter purportedly authored by Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen.
Richard Zenda Kirui Bongei appeared before the Milimani Law Courts facing four counts, including forgery of an official document, making a document without authority, uttering a false document and conspiracy to commit a felony.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences were committed on unknown dates and at an undisclosed location within Kenya.
The prosecution stated that Bongei, with the intent to deceive, forged a letter referenced 2010002101/35 dated 6th May 2024 and addressed to the Chairman of the Public Service Commission.
The letter, titled “Renewal of Local Agreement Terms”, was allegedly made to appear as though it had been prepared and signed by CS Murkomen.
It is further alleged that on 15th July 2024, Bongei knowingly uttered the same document as genuine.
In the final count, Bongei is accused of conspiring with an individual not before the court to commit the felony of forgery.
Bongei pleaded not guilty to all charges.
His lawyer argued that his client had no knowledge of the forged document, claiming that his mobile phone was used to transmit the letter without his awareness of its contents.
He urged the court to grant personal bond or reasonable cash bail, emphasizing that Bongei was cooperative and not a flight risk.
The prosecution did not oppose the request for bail.
Senior Principal Magistrate at the Milimani Courts granted Bongei a bond of KSh 300,000 with one surety of a similar amount.
Alternatively, he may secure release on a cash bail of KSh 150,000 accompanied by a contact person.
The court further directed him to deposit his passport, restricting his travel until the case is concluded.
The matter will be mentioned on 3rd December 2025 for pre-trial directions as investigations continue.
