A middle-aged man was charged at the Iten Law Courts on Friday with stealing signboards and selling them to nearby welders.
Robbert Kipruto, also known as “Aliduru,” the suspect, entered a plea before Iten Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa.

The accused is charged with stealing two metal signboards worth Ksh. 30,000 from the Elgeyo Marakwet County government on August 19, 2022, at the Arror trading center in Marakwet West.

The accused person requested to be released on a reasonable bond, however, the state counsel objected to the move stating that the accused is a flight risk and as a result, he should be denied bond or bail pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The court upheld the prosecution’s submission and ordered the accused to be remanded in custody until September 6 when the case will be mentioned for a pretrial.
