Man Faces Fraud Charges For Selling Mortgaged Car

A man has been charged with selling a mortgaged vehicle worth Sh 3 Million

John Nderitu Gichuki appeared before Magistrate Bernard Ochoi and denied three counts of obtaining money by false pretenses and illegally disposing of mortgaged goods.

He was charged with obtaining Sh 3,200,000 from Elizabeth Chepkosgei Cheruiyot with the intent to defraud.

He attempted to sell her and Michael Karanja a Mitsubishi Fuso.

The transaction was said to have occured on various dates between December 12, 2021, and December 14, 2021.

He was also accused of illegally obtaining Sh 800,000 from Karanja by pretending to sell him a Mitsubishi Fuso.

Nderitu was charged in the third count with disposing of a mortgaged vehicle without the consent of the mortgagee.

The accused, through his lawyer Ngenga, stated that he has been cooperating with the investigating officer and thus has the right to be released on reasonable bail terms.

He was released on a Sh1 million bond with a cash bail of Sh500,000.
