Man Hangs On CS Munya’s Chopper In Meru

When the helicopter took off, residents noticed a man was hanging on the landing gears and shouted at the pilot, alerting him to land.

There was a scare at Kiegoi market, Igembe South in Meru when an unidentified man hung on a chopper carrying Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and Eala MP Mpuru Aburi.

The incident occurred after Munya successfully held a rally on the grounds to solicit votes for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga ahead of the August elections.

When the helicopter took off, residents noticed a man was hanging on the landing gears and shouted at the pilot, alerting him to land.

The pilot upon realizing the dangerous move the man had taken carefully lowered the chopper towards the ground to allow him to drop off without being hurt.

In a final act of defiance, the man waved goodbye to the crowd as the helicopter touched down before fleeing when law enforcement officers attempted to arrest him.

However, residents intervened and pleaded with the officers not to assault him. He took to his heels and was said to have gone into hiding.

According to Igembe South police boss Hussein Ali, the man was spared because officers believed that he would cause commotion in the holding cells.

In January 2017, a man later dubbed “James Bond” hung on to Mr Odinga’s helicopter as it took off. Mr Odinga was in the region for a voter registration drive.

The man also caught security officers off guard when he clung onto the chopper at Maili Tatu grounds in Igembe Central as the former Prime Minister took off for Nairobi.

The pilot landed about three minutes later at a primary school near Muriri market in Tigania East, about 20 kilometers away.
