On Friday, a man was arraigned in court for allegedly beating up his wife, who had just served him dinner and gone to bed.

There was no other compelling reason given to the court for his actions.

Before Kibera Magistrate William Tulei, Joseph Kaniaru pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to the charge sheet read in court, he committed the crime on July 4, 2022, at their rented house in Nairobi’s Kangemi neighborhood.

According to the prosecution, the accused began arguing with his wife, Teresia Wangari, shortly after she handed him some food she had prepared for supper.

The wife then went to bed to rest, according to the court, before the accused allegedly grabbed her from her sleeping position and landed on her with kicks and blows, injuring her left eye and lower jaw.

According to the court, the accused loosened her lower jaw teeth and she decided to report the matter to the police, who later arrested him.

The accused person explained that he was a family man and asked the court for forgiveness.

The magistrate ordered that he pay a Sh20,000 fine or spend six months in jail.
