Justice at last as Malindi Court sentences a man to 28 years in prison for defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old girl in 2018.
Onesmus Karisa Kitsao, the convict will now spend a period of 28 years behind bars after Malindi Resident Magistrate Olga Onalo, concluded that the prosecution, led by state counsel Sylvia OleiSuke, had proved the offense of defilement against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
According to the learned Magistrate, a court of law is the last hope for vulnerable victims of crime whose cry for justice appears to be a mere noise in the ears of their assailants.
The convict faced two criminal charges including defilement and committing an indecent act with a child contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 2006.
The Magistrate said that when the rights of a child have been put to a test, it is the full responsibility of the court to move with top speed and protect the child at all costs.
“Justice should not only be served but also seen to have been served,” said the Magistrate,
The sentence serves justice to the victim, who is now a mother of a four-year-old child and has endured a tough experience in her quest for justice.
