A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after a court found him guilty of defiling his 10 year old granddaughter in Cheptais Sub-County, Bungoma County.
In a judgment delivered at the Sirisia Law Courts, Senior Principal Magistrate Raymond Langāat ruled that the evidence presented before the court sufficiently proved the offence against Benson Kitui Siyoi beyond reasonable doubt.
The court found that the prosecution had met the legal requirements for a conviction in a defilement case involving a minor, leaving no room for doubt as to the accusedās culpability.
Based on the seriousness of the offence and the age of the victim, the magistrate imposed the maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as provided for under Kenyan law.
Following the sentencing, authorities called on members of the public to remain vigilant and to report cases of child abuse, stressing the importance of community involvement in protecting children from harm.
