Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi has cancelled bond terms of an Indian National accused of obtaining Ksh 2 million by fraudulent means after the said suspect evaded justice for over a year after committing the offence.
The suspect, Viral Jitedra Amritlal Pattni according to the Court’s ruling, will now have to spend months at Industrial Area Police Station pending the hearing of his over Ksh 2.3 million fraud case.
Viral Jitedra jumped bail several times and disappeared into thin air after he was released on bond forcing the Court to forfeit his cash bail and issue a warrant of arrest.
He faces a criminal charge of obtaining Ksh 2,375,000 from unsuspecting business Lady on diverse dates between January 1 and February 20, 2023, by falsely pretending that he would supply her with Jewelry worth the said amount.
He was also accused of issuing a bad cheque amounting to Ksh 570,000 to the complainant shortly after defrauding her.
The accused person denied the charges early 2024, before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and was released on bond.
He however vanished and jumped bail several times necessitating forfeiture of the said bond and the court issued a warrant of arrest against him.
After the arrest warrant was effected, the Court agreed with the prosecution that there were indeed compelling reasons to detain the accused person pending trial.
The case will proceed on September 3 for pretrial.
