A Kithimani court has sentenced Josephat Mutuku Kasyema to death for attacking and robbing Agnes Njeri Kilonzo, the 80-year-old mother of former Member of Parliament Charles Kilonzo.
The court heard that on 8th December 2023, Kasyema broke into the victim’s home in Ndarani, Yatta Sub-County, where he assaulted her with a panga, tied her with ropes, and stole her mobile phone a Samsung Galaxy J2 valued at Ksh. 15,000 and an undisclosed amount of cash. The attack left the elderly woman with severe injuries and caused her to lose the power of speech.
Prosecutors Fred Nderitu, Lydia Wang’ombe, and James Gachoka argued that the assault was particularly vicious and heartless, emphasizing the vulnerability of the victim.
The court agreed, imposing the death sentence in a ruling that highlights the seriousness of violent crimes against the elderly.
