A 47-year-old man shocked an Eldoret court when he admitted that he is smoking bhang to energize himself and to show support for his preferred presidential candidate, Prof. George Wajackoyah.
Boniface Mutua told Eldoret senior resident magistrate Christine Menya that the ‘weed’ gives him the courage and energy to campaign for Wajackoyah.
He pleaded guilty to the offence.
He told the court that he supports Prof. Wajackoyah’s manifesto to legalize bhang and that if Wajakoyah is elected president, he wants to be the first farmer to farm it.
“I might be among the first farmer’s to grow bhang if my president legalises it,” said Mutua.
The court was told that Mutua was arrested at Bahati estate in Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu county in possession of three rolls of bhang with a street value of Kshs. 90.
The magistrate informed him that smoking or possessing bhang is currently illegal.
“For now bhang is not legal and therefore you are sentenced for the offence,” Menya said to Mutua.
The case will be heard on July 27, 2022.
