Manchester United Land Matheus Cunha in £62.5M Swoop from Wolves

Manchester United have agreed a sensational £62.5 million deal to sign Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking their first major signing of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old attacker, who netted 31 goals in 76 appearances for Wolves, becomes the first reinforcement under new manager Ruben Amorim, as United look to rebuild after a humiliating 15th-place finish — their worst-ever Premier League campaign.

Cunha, who previously starred for Atlético Madrid, has agreed to a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of an additional year. The move was triggered after United activated the £62.5 million release clause in his Wolves contract.

“We’re signing one of the most versatile forwards in Europe,” a source close to the club told BBC. “This is a clear signal that Amorim is here to reshape United’s future.”

The deal is subject to visa clearance and registration formalities, with final paperwork expected to be completed after Cunha returns from international duty with Brazil.

The forward was in Manchester over the weekend for his medical and was spotted leaving the Lowry Hotel in Salford on Sunday before jetting off to join Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad.

Brazil are set to face Ecuador this Friday (00:00 BST), marking Ancelotti’s first game as head coach.

Cunha originally joined Wolves in a £35 million move from Atlético Madrid following a stellar loan spell. His flair, pace, and creativity were crucial in Wolves’ mid-table stability.

Amorim’s rebuild begins now, and with Cunha’s arrival, United are setting the tone early for a bold resurgence in the 2025/26 season.
