The Kenya Association of Manufacturers, in conjunction with the Kenya Climate Innovation Center, have launched a report which highlights environmental management practices in Kenyan firms.
The event that was graced by the manufacturing industries in Kenya, saw the convergence of the government and the private sector in appreciating the work of the report that was seen as a key positive in climate change awareness.
Dubbed Kenya’s Corporate Environmental Performance Report, the document was accepted by the national government, with the ministry announcing a review of environmental policies that it is creating.
“The Ministry of Environment is in the process of creating a number of regulations that will enhance proper management of waste including issues of recycling and composting”. Augustine Kendio, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Environment.
Phylis Wakiaga, the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Kenyan Manufacturers retaliated the need for practical solutions, applauding the report as a first step to realizing solutions.
” The Environmental Performance Report launched today is an eye-opener how far we have come in the #ClimateChangeke journey and how far we have to go. I am glad that experts in the room have stated that on environmental initiatives industry could be steps ahead of the law. ” Wakiaga said.
She also added on the need to sesitize the youth on engaging in the climate change forums through social media and how people communicate with each other.
