Margaret Wanjiru Concedes Defeat In Nairobi

Sifuna garnered 716, 876 votes to clinch the seat against UDA’s Margaret Wanjiru who got 524, 091 votes emerging second in the race.

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has conceded defeat after losing the Nairobi senatorial seat to Edwin Sifuna of ODM.

Sifuna garnered 716, 876 votes to clinch the seat against UDA’s Margaret Wanjiru who got 524, 091 votes emerging second in the race.

In a Facebook post on Sunday evening, 14th August, Bishop Wanjiru said: “We put up a vibrant campaign in Nairobi, but our challenger, Edwin Sifuna, carried the day. We congratulate him and urge him to serve all our residents equally.”

She went on to congratulate other winners, including Esther Passaris of ODM, who was re-elected as Nairobi’s Woman Representative after earning 698,929 votes and Johnson Sakaja of UDA, who garnered 699,392 votes.

“I would also like to congratulate all the other candidates who were successful at the ballot from MCAs, MPs, Women rep Esther M Passaris, OGW and Governor Sakaja Johnson,” Bishop Wanjiru wrote.

Silas Angira (Party of Democratic Unity), David Mwangi Gichuru (Safina), and Abdikadir Ahmed Jamaa (Usawa kwa Wote Party) were also in the race.

Others are William Wahome Kabera (Democratic Party of Kenya), Julie Wanjiru Kabogo (Chama Cha Kazi) and Jacintah Wambui Kamau (Communist Party of Kenya).

Sifuna takes over from Johnson Sakaja who has held the seat for 10 years.
