Marjan Hussein Marjan has been appointed as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer.
Marjan was sworn in at the Supreme Court on Wednesday during a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
In his remarks, the new CEO promised that the electoral authority will monitor all parts of the August General Election and ensure that it was free and fair.Â
“We are in the midst of preparing for the elections since we only have a few days till August 9th, and the Commission is dedicated to conducting a free and fair election,” Marjan added.
Wafula Chebukati, Chairman of the IEBC, claimed that the organization was on track with election preparations.
Meanwhile, CJ Koome stated that the commission has collaborated with the Judiciary Committee on Elections (JCE) to teach judges in dealing with election-related cases.
“We are collaborating with the IEBC and the JCE to prepare judges and magistrates for election disputes. We’ve also discussed how to enhance future elections based on our experiences with presidential petitions,” stated the Chief Justice.
Marjan had previously served in the job as an actor, and she is the first non-lawyer to occupy the office.
Chebukati confirmed his appointment last week, saying Marjan was determined to be the most qualified of the five applicants interviewed.
