The Meru Employment and Labor Court dismissed a suit submitted by the Sakuye Community of Marsabit disputing the county’s selection of Chief Officers.
The Sakuye community filed a suit with the Employment and Labour Court in Meru, saying that they were not considered as a minority group in the nominations.
The court dismissed the case because the petitioners did not exhaust the administrative route through which their issues may have been addressed before going to court.
The ruling imposed by the same court to halt the vetting process was overturned, and the Assembly can now proceed to scrutinize the nominations.
Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali nominated 24 county chief officers in January, who were to be vetted and approved by the county assembly.
The county administrator stated that his office thoroughly reviewed the eligibility of the proposed candidate, taking into account their credentials and affirmative action, and that those nominated for the posts were not his political friends, but competent professionals.
