Martha Karua Graces Maendeleo Ya Wanawake 70th Anniversary

Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) has held its 70th Anniversary celebration for the Coastal Region at the Kenya School of Government, Mombasa County.

Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Margaret Kobia who presided over the event among other dignitaries hailed Maendeleo ya Wanawake for the great work the organisation is doing in uplifting the lives of women at the grassroot level.

“Maendeleo ya Wanawake’s work at the grassroot speaks for itself. We have seen women get opportunities in different fields and shine as a result of the organisation’s commitment and hard work,” said Prof. Kobia.

“As Government, we will continue to support you to reach and support as many women and families because you are doing an exemplary job,” she said.

On her part, the Chief Guest, Hon. Martha Karua called on women to embrace diversity in unity by working together for the common good .

“We come from diverse backgrounds and political outfits but we have no option but to embrace our differences and work together to achieve gender equality and women empowerment,” she said.

In her remarks, Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chairperson, Mrs. Rahab Muiu said that since inception in 1952, the organization has been at the forefront in championing womens rights and it will continue doing so in order to achieve gender equality and women empowerment.

Others who spoke included Kitui Governor, H.E. Charity Ngilu; Nyeri Deputy Governor, H.E. Carol Karugu; Taveta MP, Hon. Naomi Shaban; Mvita MP, Hon. Abdulswamad Nassir; Likoni MP, Hon. Mishi Mboko among other leaders.
