Lady Justice Martha Koome has finally spoke over her nomination to the position of the Chief Justice. – By Gerald Gekara.
In a letter to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the court of appeal judge expressed her gratitude for the ‘honourable nomination’.
“I am extremely grateful to the Judicial Service Commission for nominating me to the office of the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya. It will indeed be an honour and a great privilege for me to serve this great country as the Chief Justice if confirmed to the office.” She said.
She has however stated that the process has only begun, thanking Kenyans for the early celebrations.
“This is the beginning of the process, JSC having forwarded my nomination to His Excellency the President, who in line with the provisions of Article 166 of the Constitution shall forward the nomination to the National Assembly for approval.”
If confirmed, Justice Koome will be the first woman to serve as President of the Supreme Court of Kenya.
Lady Justice Koome will head the Supreme court of Kenya which is currently held in acting capacity, by the embattled DCJ Philomena Mwilu.
