Elite GSU Officers Face Charges Over Kajiado Killings

Four people were killed and six others were seriously injured when officers from the General Service Unit opened fire on demonstrators

Ten GSU officers to be charged with murder and causing serious injuries in the Masimba shootings.

Independent Politce Oversight Authority (IPOA) says nine officers have already been apprehended and are being held at the Kibra police station.

GSU officers; Kasim Nunow, Hoseah Chikara, Mohammed Adan, Wambua Kilonzo, Wesley Kipkorir, Boaz Mogire, John Mwangi, and Desmond Musyoka will face charges.

Inspector of Police Cornelio Nabwera and Corporal Zakayo Kipterio are among the others set to face the charges.

The evidence on record suggests that the GSU officers were guilty of murder in violation of section 203 read with 204 of the penal code. Furthermore, the officers are liable for causing grievous harm in violation of Section 234 of the penal code.

Mr. Duncan Kanari, Mr. Letemir Topoika Yionti, Mr. Denis Matheka Mutua, and Mr. Stanley Ntidu Tereu were killed in the June 2, 2022 incident.

Dickson Muema, Peter Saita, Kuoere Mukare, John Kaetuai, Sila Mwangu, and Tom Kanake all survived with bullet wounds.

The victims were among those who had gathered on the busy highway to protest the invasion of their farms by elephants, during which a teacher was killed after being trampled by the marauding jumbos.

“We concur with the Authority that the use of force by GSU officers against the demonstrators was not only unlawful but also unjustified,” the letter to the Authority continued. As a result, we order that the officers be charged accordingly.”
