Anti-drug agents have struck a significant blow in the fight against narcotics trafficking, seizing over 170kg of marijuana valued at Sh5.1 million in two separate operations conducted in Merti and Buruburu.
In the first incident along the Moyale-Isiolo highway, authorities intercepted a Scania bus, registration number KDH 166M, heading to Nairobi.
Concealed within the bus was 16.7kg of marijuana. Four crew members were arrested and are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Dramatic Chase in Buruburu
In a second operation, detectives from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit intercepted a Toyota Probox carrying over 155kg of marijuana in Buruburu.
Following a high-speed chase that began in Ngong, the vehicle’s occupants—Samson Zimbwakale, 27, and Phesto Sigungu, 46—abandoned the car and fled to Athi River, Machakos County.
The duo was later apprehended at their hideout in Cedar Court and is being held at Muthaiga Police Station.
The seized narcotics have been processed and secured. All suspects face charges of possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs. Authorities reaffirm their commitment to eradicating the narcotics trade, warning that traffickers will face the full force of the law.
This latest crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to combat the rise in drug trafficking and ensure a safer, drug-free society.
