Massive Fire Destroys Main Stage of Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium

A massive fire has destroyed the iconic main stage of Belgium’s world-renowned Tomorrowland festival just days before its official opening, forcing organizers to scramble for alternative plans.

The blaze erupted on Wednesday evening at the festival grounds in Boom, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Videos shared online showed fireworks going off amid the flames, raising initial fears about safety. However, festival organizers confirmed that no injuries were reported.

“Due to a serious incident and fire on the Tomorrowland Mainstage, our beloved Mainstage has been severely damaged,” organizers said in a statement. “We can confirm that no one was injured.”

Belgium’s public broadcaster VRT reported that the main stage was almost entirely consumed by the fire. Emergency services responded swiftly, but the fire was not immediately brought under control.

Around 1,000 staff members who were present on site were safely evacuated.

Debby Wilmsen, a Tomorrowland spokesperson, said the loss was deeply felt. “A lot of workers are devastated. The stage took years to build—with so much love and passion.”

The festival, known for its elaborate stage designs and global following, was set to open on Friday. Organizers have since confirmed that the “DreamVille” campsite will still open on Thursday as planned, with 38,000 festival-goers expected.

“We’re going to make it a great festival. It will be without a main stage, but we’re working on alternatives,” Wilmsen added, though she did not disclose specific contingency plans.

Local resident Morgan Hermans described the moment the fire began: “I heard fireworks and looked outside—there was a big cloud of smoke. It was scary. Everyone in Boom was a bit terrified for a few seconds.”

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area and allow emergency services full access. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
