A Matatu driver risks life imprisonment for allegedly stealing a Traffic Police Officer’s official police communication gadget.
Edwin Thairu Njoroge, a matatu driver operating along General Mathenge Road faces a serious sentence upon conviction of the charges leveled against him for allegedly using violence to rob a traffic police officer of his official communication gadget.
Mr. Edwin, according to the prosecution, on October 4, 2023, along General Mathenge Road jointly with others yet to be arrested, while armed with an iron rod, robbed police constable Stanely Chege of his special owner communication gadget.
According to the police, Edwin together with his accomplices at or immediately after the time of the robbery used actual violence to the traffic police officer.
He was also charged with allegedly damaging the police communication gadget.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, the accused denied the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh 500,000.
