Matatus To Increase Fare By 30pc After Hike In Fuel Prices

Following the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s (EPRA) increase in fuel prices last week, Public Service Vehicles (PSV) will raise their daily fares by 30% beginning tomorrow.

The adjustment of fares, according to Matatu Owners Association chairman Albert Karakacha, will cushion the organization’s investors in the transport sector.

“There has been a sharp increase in fuel prices and other expenses… We consulted before arriving at a 30 percent hike,” he said.

Petrol is now retailing at Sh195, up from Sh179 when EPRA announced the new fuel prices.

Karagacha stated that they are working with government agencies and fuel suppliers to find ways to cushion public service operators and commuters.
