Former CS Matiang’i Blocks His Arrest

In granting the anticipatory bail, the court stated that the police are at liberty to investigate Matiang’i for any criminal conduct

The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, preventing the police from arresting and detaining him.

Dr. Matiang’i petitioned the court, stating that he was facing imminent arrest, intimidation, and oppression.

Matiang’i alleged in court documents that he had obtained reliable evidence from police personnel that they were under orders to arrest him for ulterior political objectives. A report vehemently refuted by CS Kithure Kindiki.

The former cabinet secretary further said that on February 9, 2023, his home was searched and besieged by police officers who wanted to arrest him, but they backed down when the media and his lawyers arrived.

In granting the anticipatory bail, the court stated that the police are at liberty to investigate Matiang’i for any criminal conduct, but will not arrest him.

The former CS also urged the court to issue a conservatory order restraining the respondents and others from arresting, charging, or harassing him.
