The government has blamed high fuel costs on the conflict in Ukraine, which has affected global supplies, while also promising consumers that it will intervene to help them.Â
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who presided over yesterday’s consultative meeting of the National Development Implementation and Communication Committee in Nairobi, said disruptions in the export-import supply chain are among the factors driving increasing petroleum costs.
He did say, though, that the government will use the Petroleum Development Levy to help customers cope with the high cost of gasoline.
On March 14, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) raised the price of gasoline and diesel by Sh5, bringing them to Sh134.72 and Sh115.6 per litre, respectively. Kerosene’s price remained steady.
