Matiang’i Calls For Global Partnerships To Fight Crime

Interior Minister Dr. Fred Matiang’i has urged African states to strengthen intelligence-gathering and sharing partnerships to successfully tackle transnational crime, terrorism, and religious extremism.

CS Dr. Fred Matiangi stated that Kenya will continue to support AFRIPOL and INTERPOL HQ partner states in pooling resources and putting in a joint effort to combat shared security threats such as drug, human, and contraband trafficking, small arms trafficking, money laundering, vehicle theft, and livestock rustling.

“Kenya is working with foreign partners, particularly the Regional Operation Centre in Khartoum, to combat transnational organized crime” (ROCK). Dr. Matiang’i stated, “We will continue to cooperate together with our neighbors to better protect our citizens.”

He was speaking at the 10th conference of the African Union Mechanism for Police Collaboration (AFRIPOL), whose agenda included a review of member states’ police units’ strategic, operational, and tactical cooperation.

Kenya is the first country to host an AFRIPOL meeting, which is currently chaired by Kenya’s Inspector General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai.

The Kenyan AFRIPOL office at the DCI Headquarters in Nairobi is already operational, thanks to Interpol’s assistance, according to CS. Matiang’i.
