Matiang’i: I Have No Scores to Settle, I Just Want to Fix Kenya

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has declared that his bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election is not driven by revenge or political vendettas, but by a deep desire to steer Kenya toward recovery and prosperity.

Speaking to K24 on Monday, Dr. Matiang’i said his goal is to address the country’s challenges and restore its lost economic strength. “If this country wants seriousness and delivery of services, I am one of the candidates they should look at very carefully,” he said. “I have no scores to settle with anyone, I have no political debts. I am here for only one purpose, to contribute to fixing the challenges that face my country and to go forward.”

The former CS emphasized that despite the current turmoil, Kenya’s rich natural resources and youthful, educated population remain a foundation for optimism and transformation.

“Countries go through situations like we are going through right now. The worst thing that can happen to all of us is to lose hope in our country,” he said. “We are a resilient country. Kenya has great capacity and we will rise again. Our future will be better.”

Matiang’i brushed off reports of infighting within the opposition over who should lead the anti-Ruto campaign, assuring that his presidential platform will soon be officially announced. He hinted at aligning with a coalition of seasoned political leaders to mount a united front.

Already, he has teamed up with key figures including Martha Karua (People’s Liberation Party), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Justin Muturi (former Public Service CS), and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of the Democracy for Citizens Party.

Together, the opposition bloc is crafting what they term a “solid plan” aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.

As political temperatures rise, Dr. Matiang’i’s calm, solutions-driven rhetoric is positioning him as a serious contender in a race that is shaping up to be both fiercely competitive and ideologically defining.
