Matiang’i Jets Back In The Country, Set To Appear Before DCI

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has returned to the country after a two-week trip to the United Kingdom.

Matiang’i is said to have travelled to Europe in a private capacity to attend to an urgent private family matter.

According to sources, the ex-CS arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday night aboard KLM Flight 0566 at 10:00 p.m.

According to the source, Matiang’i is scheduled to appear at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Monday at 11:00 a.m.

The DCI has been questioning Matiang’i about the alleged police raid on his house in February.

Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Sang issued a directive compelling Matiang’i to appear at DCI headquarters on the grounds that he may have published false information about the alleged police raid a fortnight ago.

Later, his lawyer Danstan Omari defended him, claiming that the DCI did not follow the proper procedures for summons service, noting that neither the former CS nor his legal representatives had received such a directive.

If the DCI follows the summons guidelines, Matiang’i will willingly present himself for questioning, according to Omari.
