President William Ruto presided over his first cabinet meeting today, Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at State House in Nairobi.
All of the outgoing Cabinet Secretaries were present at the meeting.
“President William Ruto is currently chairing his first Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi,” State House announced.
The meeting comes a day after the president presided over the distribution of relief food to drought-affected counties, which was attended by a few CSs.
The meeting was attended by Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i, who was the Super CS during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
Dr Matiang’i, along with ICT CS Joe Mucheru, Environment CS Keriako Tobiko, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, were among the CS in the previous administration leading campaigns for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Mr Raila Odinga.
Mr Munya was absent from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s event, where he launched the country’s distribution of low-cost fertilizers.
They were seen at several Azimio campaign rallies in the run-up to the last general election, rallying support for Mr Odinga.
DP Gachagua, CSs Najib Balala (Tourism) Raychelle Omamo (Foreign Affairs), Ambassador Amina Mohamed (Sports), Attorney General Kihara Kariuki and Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua were also present.
The first Cabinet meeting comes amid pressure mounted on the Head of State to appoint CSs.
