Matiang’i Saga: EACC Goes After Former CS Wealth

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has written to Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei seeking information on former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s declared wealth.

In a letter dated February 27, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak says the Commission “is carrying out investigations involving Dr. Fred Matiangi.”

“Pursuant to Section 30(1) (4) (b) of the Public Officers Ethics Act, the Commission wishes to request for Certified Copies of Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities forms for years 2012 to 2022, including the initial and final declarations,” adds the letter.

Furthermore, Mbarak delegates EACC officers Abdul Low and Paul Mugwe to collect the documents from Koskei’s office at Harambee House.

According to an insider, the commission is keen on establishing how Matiang’i’s wealth grew over the ten years he served under President Uhuru Kenyatta as a CS.

The latest development will pile more pressure on the beleaguered former “Super CS.”

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations stormed Dr. Matiang’i’s Karen home earlier this month to obtain CCTV footage of the alleged police raid on February 9, 2023.

Dr. Matiang’i, who was appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, was replaced on the Interior Security and National Government Coordination docket by Prof. Kithure Kindiki.
